ELI’s Academic English Program (AEP) is a full-time, CEA accredited academic program for international students offered year-round. This program is designed for English language learners seeking to improve their English proficiency in all skill areas. All AEP classes are held on ELI’s campus.
AEP teaches English language and university study skills to students from many countries around the world. The format of the lessons includes discussion-based cooperative learning methods that inspire students to take an active role in the interactive learning process.
- Maximum class size is 15.
- Four courses are offered during each term: reading and vocabulary, writing, listening, speaking and presentation.
- 5 proficiency levels are offered to meet each learner’s abilities.
AEP Advantages
- Students will improve readiness in U.S. higher education curriculum study in professional listening, presentation, academic reading, vocabulary, research paper writing, and grammar.
- AEP teaches students to communicate fluently and effectively in academic settings while improving their study skills.
Admission & Enrollment
- Students who apply to the English Language Institute (ELI) should plan to attend a college or university in the United States
- Generally, applicants must have already graduated from high school, though there are a few exceptions for students who meet the minimum age requirement of 16 and have demonstrated excellent academic ability
- School transcripts are required
- ELI seeks applicants who are open to learning about American culture and society and can adapt to the norms of higher education in the United States
- Students must take a placement test and achieve a minimum score of 25 on the Global Scale of English (GSE)
- Decisions regarding enrollment are made by the ELI President
ELI continually seeks out students desiring to study English for academic purposes and enrolls students before the beginning of each term. Students interested in attending the Academic English Program (AEP) should complete the AEP Application packet online or download the packet here and submit the necessary documents indicated on the instruction page.
Once the application is submitted, ELI administration will review the application and make a decision based on criteria needed for acceptance. A letter will be issued to the student following the review. If approved, students will receive an acceptance letter with the next steps for completing their enrollment. The acceptance letter will include information about housing and medical insurance as well as instructions about how to make a payment. An I-20 form will be issued and sent in the mail to international students who require it under the current Department of Homeland Security regulation.
While in the program, students are expected to follow the attendance policy in addition to completing the necessary academic and curriculum activities and assessment.
